Song Haozhen, a child suffering from lumbar-sacral myelomeningocele combined with tethered cord syndrome, recently received compassionate assistance from famous singers Chen Yufan and Bai Baihe. Thanks to the dedicated treatment by Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo, Song Haozhen has essentially corrected his foot deformities and is hopeful to overcome incontinence.
Born with the condition in 2008 in Linzhou City, Henan, a mass was found at the base of Song Haozhen’s spine at birth. Diagnosed with congenital myelomeningocele and high-arched foot deformities at Anyang City People’s Hospital, he was too young for surgery and had to be taken home for observation.
By the age of one, after consultations at several hospitals, Song Haozhen was finally diagnosed with lumbar-sacral myelomeningocele combined with tethered cord syndrome, pediatric hydrocephalus, and deformities. As he grew older, he began to experience urinary and bowel incontinence and difficulty urinating. His father lamented that Song Haozhen had never worn dry clothes, relying on diapers at night.
With the family being farmers and struggling for daily food, affording treatment seemed impossible. Despite doctors giving only a 50% chance of cure, Song Haozhen’s parents were determined to seek treatment, accumulating a significant amount of debt.

Fortunately, with the support of Chen Yufan, Bai Baihe, and the Angel Mom Foundation, Song Haozhen was able to gather the necessary funds for treatment. Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo, a renowned urology expert known for the Xiao procedure, extended his warm assistance to Song Haozhen.

On May 5, 2015, Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo successfully performed surgery on Song Haozhen. Post-surgery, Professor Xiao was confident in the outcome, believing that Song Haozhen had recovered well and his foot deformities were essentially corrected. The child’s recovery of autonomous urinary and bowel functions depended on the healing of reconnected nerves, which could take 6 to 8 months. There is hope that Song Haozhen will fully recover and join other children in school with his backpack.
