When Mr. Chen was discharged from the hospital, he reflected on his fortune amidst misfortune. Despite his unfortunate circumstances, he was lucky to have been treated at Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital, where the Xiao procedure cured his years of urinary incontinence caused by paraplegia.
Life is full of unexpected events, and sometimes, major disasters wait for us when we least expect them. Mr. Chen, a farmer from Macheng County in Hubei, fell from a window between the second and third floors while renovating his new house. The impact of landing on the ground made him feel as if millions of knives were stabbing his waist at once, causing numbness and an inability to move, with complete numbness in both legs.
His family took him to the People’s Hospital of Linwu County in Hubei, where he was diagnosed with incomplete paraplegia of the L1 vertebrae. He underwent two surgeries: a posterior lumbar spinal canal decompression and intervertebral fusion with internal fixation. Although his legs recovered somewhat, he had no sensation in his buttocks and waist, making it very difficult to urinate and defecate. In April 2012, he was taken to Huazhong University of Science and Technology Union Hospital for an internal fixation removal surgery. However, he struggled with defecation and urination, feeling no sensation during bowel movements. Later, Mr. Chen underwent a cystostomy surgery at a local hospital, but his condition did not significantly improve.
Although not fully recovered at Huazhong University of Science and Technology Union Hospital, Mr. Chen’s family learned from the doctors there that the best treatment for paraplegia and incontinence in China was provided by Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo at the Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital in Shenzhen. Desperate for recovery, his family borrowed money from relatives and friends and immediately took Mr. Chen to Shenzhen.
Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo reviewed Mr. Chen’s medical history and conducted specialized examinations, including ultrasound, MRI, and urodynamic studies. The diagnosis was neurogenic bladder, L4-5 disc herniation, post-cystostomy, and post-L1 vertebral fracture surgery. After consulting with experts, Professor Xiao decided to perform the Xiao procedure (artificial somatic-autonomic reflex arc), spinal canal expansion decompression, and spinal nerve loosening surgery on Mr. Chen.
Although previous treatments did not fully cure Mr. Chen, they slightly alleviated his condition. Timely treatment with the Xiao procedure by Professor Xiao led to a successful surgery and a significant recovery for Mr. Chen. The Xiao procedure is the essence of Professor Xiao’s treatment for incontinence. By combining decompression and loosening with the Xiao procedure, patients can achieve a fundamental recovery.
