A 24-year-old girl named Xiao Li from Yingcheng, Hubei, has undergone countless surgeries and endured much suffering at a young age. Fortunately, she met Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo and received consistent treatment at Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital in Shenzhen, ultimately achieving recovery.

From birth, Xiao Li had a sacrococcygeal mass and suffered from incontinence. Due to her family’s poverty, she received no treatment. By the age of 13, long-term incontinence led to severe urinary tract infections, significant anemia, and serious vulvar ulceration. Her father rushed her to Huazhong University of Science and Technology Union Hospital, where she was diagnosed with congenital myelomeningocele. Xiao Li was admitted three times, and after curing her severe anemia and vulvar ulceration, Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo, then the director of the Urology Department at Union Hospital, performed a “artificial somatic-central nervous system-autonomic reflex pathway” surgery (Xiao procedure) on her. One year post-surgery, Xiao Li’s bladder and bowel functions had almost returned to normal. However, complications from congenital myelomeningocele worsened her lower limb deformities over time, causing her feet to turn inward and making walking difficult.
In recent years, Xiao Li worked in Shenzhen. Her lower limb deformities severely impacted her employment and personal life. Despite seeking rehabilitation treatments at many hospitals without success, she hoped to live and walk like others after regaining bladder and bowel function. Eventually, Xiao Li turned to Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo, who had successfully treated her before, and went to Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital. The hospital’s orthopedic director, Professor Gao, conducted a comprehensive examination and diagnosed her with “bilateral lower limb deformities and talipes equinovarus.” She underwent several surgeries: left foot deformity correction, right foot inversion deformity correction, left Achilles tendon lengthening, left talonavicular joint fusion, left calcaneocuboid joint fusion, and fusion of the first metatarsophalangeal joint.

Three months after her left foot surgery and cast removal, Xiao Li returned to the hospital for her right foot surgery. Her right foot had a “clubfoot” high-arched inversion deformity, with resistance to dorsiflexion. Professor Gao successfully performed a corrective surgery for her right foot inversion and drooping deformity. Upon discharge, her right foot incision healed well, with no redness, swelling, or discharge, and no deformity or inversion.
In May of this year, Xiao Li visited Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital for the third time for a left Achilles tendon lengthening surgery. One month post-surgery, her left anterior superior iliac spine to heel distance averaged 85.5CM, and her right side averaged 81.CM, with the right lower limb being 4.0CM shorter than the left. She only needed one more right tibial lengthening surgery to make her legs the same length, allowing her to walk, run, and jump like any normal girl.
After this discharge, Xiao Li felt beautiful and grateful. Over the years, Professor Xiao Chuan-Guo and Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital have given her so much. Xiao Li said if it weren’t for the compassionate care of the professors at Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital, she might not have had the courage to continue living. They not only cured her but also made her as beautiful as other girls, a true miracle. She is deeply thankful to Professor Xiao and Xiao Chuan-Guo Hospital.
